A new year is here and with that comes new design trends for the home. In 2019 we saw plenty of two-toned kitchen cabinets, wallpapered accent walls and barn doors. Are those on their way out or are they here to stay? Only time will tell…

  • Wood Tone Cabinets– Natural wood looking cabinets are back in high demand in 2020. All white kitchens are seeing their way out and people are rediscovering their love for warm, yet neutral wood grain.

  • Black Stone Countertops– Black countertops add a moodier vibe to an otherwise neutral space.

  • Primary Colors– Bold colors are bringing the 80’s back in the best way possible.

How to style shelves in your home

It can be hard to know where to start with styling the shelves in your living room, dining room or office, so today we are going to give you some tips to create perfectly curated shelves. The first thing to note is that there is no right or wrong way to style your shelves, but there are a few things to keep in mind in order to create an aesthetically pleasing look. So to get started, clear your shelves off completely. Next, gather up items to have on display, some of which have meaning to you, and start by placing your larger or taller items on the shelf first.

Tip #1 When displaying books, make sure that you like the colors and look of the spine since that is all you will see on display. If you don’t like the book jacket, take it off and see what is underneath. Lean or stack the books and make sure it feels balanced when you step back.

Tip #2 Instead of lining up your picture frames, sprinkle them throughout for a better flow.

Tip #3 Mix vintage pieces and new elements with different textures.

Tip #4 Keep everything counterbalanced by having varying heights next to each other.

Tip #5 Add greenery to warm up the space. Plants can help add texture to the space.

Tip #6 If your bookshelves reach the floor, add functionality by filling the space with a pretty basket full of stuff for the kids. They will be able to help themselves to toys or games, while keeping your area nice and neat.

A record monthly drop in home inventory in Metro Denver

Sellers are driving the decline in the amount of homes that are up for sale according to the December Market Trends Report from the Denver Metro Association of Realtors. The inventory of homes and condos available for sale in metro Denver plunged 27.9% from November to December, which was a record monthly decline.

“The main reason we saw fewer choices was not because more (homes) were going under contract or selling, but because nearly 30% fewer new listings came on the market in December compared to the month prior,” said Jill Schafer, chairwoman of the DMAR Market Trends Committee in a release accompanying the December report.

It is undetermined if the decline is due to unmotivated sellers because fewer people are looking to leave Denver or possibly because some don’t want to lose their already low interest rate. Many might be waiting to sell until the weather turns, which could give way to an abundance of listings come spring.
